TheChipLab.com Selected as Vendor for TechCrunch40
Custom poker chip site selected to provide custom voting tokens for tech start-up conference
PORTLAND, OR - 17-September-2007 02:40 PM - TheChipLab.com (http://www.thechiplab.com) - an online retailer offering an innovative, flash-based tool for designing customized poker chips - has been selected to provide customized, TechCrunch-branded poker chips which will be used as voting tokens in this week's TechCrunch40 conference, held at the Palace Hotel in San Francisco.
"We were happy to provide the voting tokens for TechCrunch40 and are thrilled with the attention TheChipLab.com has received," commented TheChipLab.com's CEO, Dale Stickney. "Perhaps we should consider the same voting system for the 2008 elections - it's more efficient and it's all a gamble anyway."
In addition to 39 companies selected by the TechCrunch voting committee to launch at the conference, 99 companies were admitted to present in rotation in the conference's DemoPit, where they met with reporters, VCs and other conference attendees to market their products. Attendees were asked to vote for the most promising company each day, using the custom tokens. The most promising company as voted by the attendees was then invited to present on the main stage as the 40th launch company.
"I learned about TheChipLab.com shortly after they launched, and I blogged about the company on TechCrunch last December. What initially caught my attention is their Flash tool - they offer more powerful schwag design tools than the heavily funded Zazzle and CafePress," commented Mike Arrington, editor of TechCrunch. "When we were looking for a unique voting method for our DemoPit companies, TheChipLab.com seemed like a great fit."
The custom chips featured the TechCrunch40 logo and were color-coded by day to ensure proper voting. Each attendee was given one token for each day upon registration.

About TechCrunch40
TechCrunch40 is a conference hosted by TechCrunch and Jason Calacanis with the support of several generous sponsors that will take place September 17th-18th, 2007 at the Palace Hotel in San Francisco, California. The format is simple: Forty of the hottest new startups from around the world will announce and demo their products over a two day period at TechCrunch40. And they don't pay a cent to do this. They will be selected to participate based on merit alone. In fact, we're even offering a $50,000 cash award and lining up other in-kind services and awards from a generous group of corporate sponsors. A group of 100 additional companies will also demo their products in a DemoPit adjacent to the main presentation room. For more information about the conference or to learn about presenting companies, visit www.techcrunch40.com.
